James Hopkins serves as the Director of Percussion for The Colony High School Cluster.  His duties include instructing the TCHS Drumline, assisting with the marching band and other ensembles, percussion ensembles, teaching beginning percussionists, and assisting with all wind band percussive needs.  Prior to coming to The Colony HS, Mr. Hopkins served as the Director of Percussion for Castleberry High School, New Braunfels High School, Nimitz High School and Highland Park High School.  Mr. Hopkins has also conducted concert bands at New Braunfels HS and Nimitz HS where his ensembles received first divisions at UIL.  

 

Mr. Hopkins graduated from Texas Christian University with a B.M. in Music Education and studied Percussion with Nick Petrella. He was a member of the Wind Ensemble under the direction of Greg Clemons as well as the TCU marching band and Symphony Orchestra.  He marched with the Sky Ryders Drum and Bugle Corps and The World Champions The Cadets of Bergen County.   When he's not in school you can find him spending time with his husband Brad, playing softball, or playing with his 2 miniature schnauzers Lucy-Liu & Tyson-Li.  He resides in Richardson, Texas and is a big time foodie.
