Ian Pilley currently serves as the Color Guard Director at The Colony high school. Under his direction, the TCHS color guard has received several local and regional awards, including being consistent WGI regional finalists, top 3 finishes in NTCA and WGI regional events, and the 2019 NTCA silver medal. He graduated from Nation Ford high school in Fort Mill, SC where he played bassoon and served as drum major for 3 years before joining the winter guard program his junior year. After high school, he attended Jacksonville State University in Alabama and began performing/teaching color guard full time. While at JSU, he participated in both the fall and winter guard programs and began marching drum corps the following summer, including 2 summers at the Madison Scouts before aging out with the Blue Stars in 2016. He also marched Paramount and CGT Dallas winter guards, both of which earned spots as Independent World class finalists. Following his age-out, Mr. Pilley returned to teach the Blue Stars color guard in addition to teaching and choreographing for several high school programs both in and out of Texas. He resides in Little Elm, TX, where he enjoys spending time with his cats and exploring local outdoor parks and trails.
